still rough

The wave action has calmed down a bit, but still rough if nothing major happens should be calm tomorrow...our northeast wind is being caused by the storm of bermuda dont know what it's going to do so we again have northeast wind and southeast waves the water is still clean

not many fish the reported catches were spanish, hardtails, skipjack, blues, and reds

one entry n the destin rodeo a 2.4 pompano

rough

If the seas return to normal the fishing should be great....again today we have a strong east wind, waves out of the southeast and clean water..the latest storm in the southern gulf is still pushing all the water this way

again not much caught just a few skipjack and spanish were reported

our winter hours have already started we are now open from 6am to 10 pm daily

Monday, October 03, 2005

REPEAT

Looks the same as yesterday..we have a strong east wind, waves from the southeast and riled up water

just a few whiting and hardtails again reported yesterday

Sunday, October 02, 2005

churned up

usually when we have a north east wind the seas lay down....not today the will is brisk, and the seas are riled up...waves coming out of the southeast again...the water appears to be clean but wave action affected the visibility

the only reported catches yesterday were hardtails, and whiting

fish

water conditions have changed again...back to rough waves coming in from the southeast and the wind out of the northeast has the water stirred up...clarity does not look very good right now, but yesterday on low tide visibility greatly improved and you could see where the sand bars had moved...should be able to keep a bait in the water near the end of the pier

yesterdays catch showed that the fish are coming back here

while not many of any one we have several different species reds (biggies), spanish, hardtails, skipjack, trigger, pompano and a lone jack

Tuesday, September 27, 2005

better today

The sea conditions have greatly improved over yesterday...not much wave action and small swells...wind is out of the north ...water is still silted up but appears to be fairly clean

most of yesterdays catch was hardtails and skipjack with a few spanish and over size reds

weekend will be okay for fishing and could ever be okay for catching

Monday, September 26, 2005

no rita not much change

We finally got a fishing report..some lucky angler caught a red yesterday

already today we have heard of another red, a couple skipjack and a few hardtails.

not much but better then the last few days

water conditions have not changed still have a strong south wind, high seas and dirty water..today some rain is in the picture as well..

some beach erosion has taken place really hard to determine just how much until the seas calm down...this will also change the sandbars..can only hope for better conditions

Sunday, September 25, 2005

rita5

the good news is rita is on shore and didn't do athe amount ofdamage that was perdicted.

locally thte conditions are unchanged still high seas strong wind and dirty water

the good news is it wasn't as bad as predicted...ritas on land now and things should start to settle down

again the conditions are what you would expect...high seas, strong south wind and dirty water

no fish were reported caught yesterday

Friday, September 23, 2005

rita3

Nothing good to report today...the surf is still high with a very strong current...the water is all messed up and the wind is out of the south east which would be great for fishing if everything else was okay... again if you can keep a bait in the water something might come along

not many trying to fish yesterday and no reported results.

rita susposed to hit land tomorrow so conditions should clear up late saturday or sunday

Thursday, September 22, 2005

rita2

With a cat 5 in the gulf anywhere it is going to effect us....today we have a strong east wind, high seas and very silted water

yesterdays catch included a few reds, bules whiting and the skipjack and hardtails

if you could keep a bait in the water something might be out there to eat it

Wednesday, September 21, 2005

Rita

Rita is in the gulf and has changed the weather...today we have a nice south wind and good waves...the water is a little silted but looks clean

yesterdays catch was nothing to brag about... just a few skipjacks, hardtails, blues, and reds

if the storm stays on the present track, it could drive the fish into our area..will just have to wait and see

Tuesday, September 20, 2005

usual suspects

no great changes today..still crystal clear water very light north wind and calm seas

yesterdays catch was down just the usual suspects hardtails, whiting, blues, and skipjack

slow saturday

The weather is about the same...we have a slight northwest very light breeze, small swells and the water while not crystal is clear there is some slit inplaces

nothing to brag about in yesterdays catch...just heard of some spanish, whiting and hardtails...of course there is always the possibility that others were caught and not reported

Friday, September 16, 2005

late post

Not much change in the weather....wind still out of the west with medium waves and swels...the clarity of the water is a bit down today...further out on the pier its very clear but kinda murky next to the beach

yesterdays catch dropped a bit also...the got some spanish, blues, whiting and the usual hardtails and skipjack

with the storm off the carolinas moving out , it could bring us a more south or southeast wind which as you know will greatly improve fishing conditions

Thursday, September 15, 2005

better

We still have a west wind not very hard, small waves and clear water

yesterdays catch included a couple of kings, some nice spanish runs, there there when there there and not when there not, whiting scattered, couple pompano, blues, and the usual skipjacks and hardtails, also got a few bonito

Today we have a northeast wind not very hard, small waves and crystal lear water

there are baits around the pier

yesterdays catch was a mixed bag of the usual suspects some spanish, hardtails, skipjack, whiting, pompano, a legal red, and blues

its a nice day on the beach come on out and have fun

Friday, September 09, 2005

small but plentiful

We still have an east wind very small waves and once again crystal clear water...temp is 84...

no big fish reported but the people did do good on a mixed bag of spanish, hardtails, skipjack, whiting and a few pompano....also cooler size catch of yellowtails

its hard to predict what the weekend will be like after one cane and another over on the east coast, your best bet is to come and see what happens

Thursday, September 08, 2005

picking up

Today we have a brisk east wind and nice waves....the water where it is clean is very clear and where it is dirty its still clear but silted..

yesterday again the usual suspects but a few more of them

whiting, skipjack, hardtails, spanish, and blues...

Wednesday, September 07, 2005

bit dirty

We have a northest wind nice waes and swells, but it is dirty...you can see the patch work between clean and dirty...

some bait is still around

yesterdays catch included the usual suspects hardtails, skipjack, a good run of spanish and some whiting right in the surf

Tuesday, September 06, 2005

still fish here

Today we have a north wind that cools the temperature down, and nice waves..visibility is still good some bait is hanging around

yesterday;s catch highlight was a 35 pound king they also caught a few smaller ones....along with a good catch of spanish the ever present hardtails and skipjack and some whiting up in the surf

Monday, September 05, 2005

kings again

The conditions are almost ideal for kings...we have a good east wind some nice waves and clear water rumor has it that today someone got a #35er...there were also a few other smaller ones caught today

yesterdays report looked kinda incomplete only whiting hardtail and skipjack on the board, but i would be willing to bet other species were caught

Sunday, September 04, 2005

the fish are back

Again the water is very clear no problems seeing fish

today we have a slight east wind and small waves

except for the hardtails all other catch were either just a few and scatter throughout the day

yesterdays catch as usual was loaded with hardtails, others included alot of skipjack, blues spanish and whiting

Friday, September 02, 2005

improving

fishing conditions are getting better by the hour....water is still clearing up while no crystal clear it is easy to make out the bars and troughs....waves are down to just a foot or so and wind very light out of the north...

yesterday they caught a few hardtails, skipjack, and blues....some bait is starting to show up

conditions should be pierfect for the week end

Thursday, September 01, 2005

fishable

It finally looks that the gulf is once again capable of being fished.....the water while not crystal clear is clean...wind has died down and we currently have a slight breeze out of the north....the seas ad flattening out and just have some small swells and waves

now we just need people out here to see what kinda fish there are

Wednesday, August 31, 2005

aftermath

While fishing conditions are improving, the water is still dirty the wind still strong and the waves high

the waves and wind are ideal for mackeral fishing....don't know how the dirty water will effect it

also this is the first time since 69 that a storm of this size has been in the area....it had to have some effect on the fishing...

just need some people out there to give it a try and see what happens

Katrina

Storm is over, and we survived again...pier is open...conditions are not to good for fishing..we still have a strong wind high, surf and dirty water... some major beach erosion occurred....it will settle down and we can see what happens

Sunday, August 28, 2005

Katrina

Katrina is heading for the big easy, but we can still see her effects here...today the wind is getting strong out of the east...waves are large and surf is up big time.

we will stay open unless the sheriff shuts us down

yesterday when the seas were not so high they had a good days fishing

the usual hardtails, skipjack, a few spanish, whiting, blues, reds, and a couple of kings

W.W.?.

We have the wind and waves, but haven't heard to much about the fish yet.

Even with the north wind we have decent waves, no visible grass and very clear water.

so far today they have caught a few of the usual suspects nothing to brag about yet

yesterdays catch included a couple of kings, a cuda, hardtails, skipjack spanish, and whiting

the storm track keeps moving west out of our area..the lastest we saw indicated ms- la boarder.

W.W.F.

not wrestling...wind, waves ,and fish

Finally getting some wind...todays is brisk southeast breeze and some waves...not any grass to be seen and the visibility is still excellent

The fish are starting to show up not in great numbers but we have had a few KINGS this morning if the breeze holds up I think we can expect a great weekend of fishing. just need to have the wind and waves continue to push the fish this way

yesterday they caught the usual suspects spanish, hardtails, whiting, skipjack, and blues

Thursday, August 25, 2005

thursday

still august still slow...

today we have an east wind small waves clear water and some small patches of grass

except for hardtails everything is slow and spotty

other catches included black snapper, spanish, reds, blues, and the every popular skipjack

if this storm gets into the gulf and near us it could help the fishing

Wednesday, August 24, 2005

august

Thanks

Thanks for informing us that comments about this blog were being made on a web site other then the okaloosaislandpier one. We will in the future try and address those issues.

Pictures. Would love to post them, however have not received any from the fisher folks. Any one who sends a picture to us at islandpier@cybertron.com will have it published if the size permits.

Except for the hardtails and skipjack fishing has been usualaugust fair that is slow. Until the water cools down some or thetarpon show up you can expect it to remain that way. With that said there will always be the day when fish show up in great numbers and the people limit out. Just wish we could perdict when that will happen. Remember yesterdays catch does not always reflect what will happen today or tomorrow. At ths time of the year, the best bet is a good southeast wind and overcast skies.

There have been schools of bait hanging around the pier lately. they want to get under the pier and in the shade. Most of they are alewies, but cigar minnors are here also in lesser numbers. You should be able to can some on either gold hooks or bait rigs.

Yesterdays catch included, a few black snapper (live or fresh shrimp the best bet), spanish still being taken or bullble and gotcha's, skipjack on just about anything, reds missows the best bet and of course hardtails using larger bait rigs either #6 or #4 or some cut bait.

It the past I did not want to make suggestions on what to use to catch different species, since many anglers know much more then i do. Also did not want to waste your time with excess verbage.

If you the readers want i will expand this blog to cover those point brought up

Again thanks for the feedback

yesterdays catch included spanish, reds, and hardtails

Sunday, May 01, 2005

Bye Bye April

May is here and right now it doesn't look much better....yesterday's horrible conditions severely cut down on the number of fishermen and the only reported catches were spanish and hard tails. Right now we have a cold north wind but is susposed to shift to the southeast sometime today. When this happens and if the water clears up fishing will improve

FYI this April produced the most rain ever recorded in a 30 day period ever. its gotta change sometime

Saturday, April 30, 2005

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

April showers bring May fish

This has been the wettest april on record. The 2 plus inches last night did just what you would expect to the water...its dirty again southern wind pushing high surf...if the rain stops or you dont mind getting wet....conditions are okay for mackeral and using live bait for cobia, but sight fishing would be very hard

yesterdays catch included spanish, blues and pompano

Monday, April 25, 2005

Got Another one

A good angler got another cobia yesterday...if he had been in the tourney it would have placed in the money, but....

Still have a north wind seas are calm and the water clean visibility is okay

Yesterdays catch included spanish, blues, reds, sheepshead and still more pompano

this is susposed to be the last cold snap of the year

Saturday, April 23, 2005

Weekend weather

Last night rain storm silted up the water a bit...in close it is cloudly but visibility improves as you go further out on the pier....Alex lost a big cobia at gaff today..people say it would have placed first or second in the tourney

yesterdays catch included spanish, king, sheepshead, reds, blues, and still mre pompano

a tide line should come through and with this north wind improve water conditions for this afternoon and sunday

Friday, April 22, 2005

clear water

This is the clearest the water has been in a good while...hardly any breeze and the small waves are coming from the southeast...this all adds up to perfect cobia conditions....

if you have signed up for the cobia tourney and have not got your tee shirt, just stop by and pick it up

remember the tourney pays 3 places...I am sure that there will be more money fish caugth before it is over...if your not in it you can sign up now

yesterdays catch included spanish were seeing some good runs of these gotcha plugs working the best, blues, pompano this is the longest streak of catches in a good while ...big reds, sheepshead and kings

Never the same

Weekend is here and of course the water has changed...The good news is that we have a perfect east southeast wind and current...this always pushes the fish in to us.....the so so news is that after a day of clearing today while visible the water has a slight tint..with good sunglasses you can still see the fish it hust looks ugly

yesterdays catch included the one cobia, blues, pompano, and spanish...seems like pompano have been caught every day

we stock some excellent artifical baits for pompano included soft mold sand fleas

Friday, April 15, 2005

I can see the bottom

Clear water just in time for the weekend...if we don't have any major storms the seas wil be perfect for fishing can already see the bottom close in and it is clear all the way to the end....

the other biggie for today is already one cobia has been landed....the secret weapon in this case was a gotcha plug

yesterdays catch included spanish, blues, reds , and pompano

remember we are open 24 hours now so come early and stay late

Thursday, April 14, 2005

Still Dirty

When you look at the water you wonder how we got the nickname emerald coast....the water is still dirty but calm and cleaning up a bit...

yesterdays catch included spanish, blues, and whitings

temp is coming up and at elast we have sun shine

should be cleared up by weekend

dont forget the cobia tourney

Wednesday, April 13, 2005

good weather forcasted

Weatherman perdicts no rain for the next week..hope he's right. the seas have calmed down we have medium swells...still dirty but clearing up ...if we get a good tide line it could clear up in a day or two

Big Mac Attack

Yesterday's rumor was true the first king mackrel was caught. The catch also included pompano, spanish, skipjack, and blues.

Todays water conditions are yucky..dirty water..on the good side have a nice south east wind..not much hope for cobia today but other species will be available to take a bait

if you have any photos that would be of interest to others e mail them to islandpier@cybertron.com and i will put them up for all to see

RUMOR

As this is being typed the rummor is that someone has a large king on at the end of the pier.

visibility while not perfect is good enough to see fish...

yesterdays catch included spanish, big reds, bules, sheepshead and pompano

it should be a great week end for fishing come on out and enjoy a day in the sunshine

Friday, April 08, 2005

so so

After yesterdays terrible conditions it's susprising that the catch included pompano, spanish, and sheepshead.

conditions are better today, still not good but better looks like some clean water off the end, so hopefully we will be good by the week end
