aftermath

While fishing conditions are improving, the water is still dirty the wind still strong and the waves high

the waves and wind are ideal for mackeral fishing....don't know how the dirty water will effect it

also this is the first time since 69 that a storm of this size has been in the area....it had to have some effect on the fishing...

just need some people out there to give it a try and see what happens

Katrina

Storm is over, and we survived again...pier is open...conditions are not to good for fishing..we still have a strong wind high, surf and dirty water... some major beach erosion occurred....it will settle down and we can see what happens

Katrina

Katrina is heading for the big easy, but we can still see her effects here...today the wind is getting strong out of the east...waves are large and surf is up big time.

we will stay open unless the sheriff shuts us down

yesterday when the seas were not so high they had a good days fishing

the usual hardtails, skipjack, a few spanish, whiting, blues, reds, and a couple of kings

no predictions for today...

W.W.?.

We have the wind and waves, but haven't heard to much about the fish yet.

Even with the north wind we have decent waves, no visible grass and very clear water.

so far today they have caught a few of the usual suspects nothing to brag about yet

yesterdays catch included a couple of kings, a cuda, hardtails, skipjack spanish, and whiting

the storm track keeps moving west out of our area..the lastest we saw indicated ms- la boarder.

if nothing changes we will remain open

W.W.F.

not wrestling...wind, waves ,and fish

Finally getting some wind...todays is brisk southeast breeze and some waves...not any grass to be seen and the visibility is still excellent

The fish are starting to show up not in great numbers but we have had a few KINGS this morning if the breeze holds up I think we can expect a great weekend of fishing. just need to have the wind and waves continue to push the fish this way

yesterday they caught the usual suspects spanish, hardtails, whiting, skipjack, and blues

thursday

still august still slow...

today we have an east wind small waves clear water and some small patches of grass

except for hardtails everything is slow and spotty

other catches included black snapper, spanish, reds, blues, and the every popular skipjack

if this storm gets into the gulf and near us it could help the fishing

Thanks

Thanks for informing us that comments about this blog were being made on a web site other then the okaloosaislandpier one. We will in the future try and address those issues.

Pictures. Would love to post them, however have not received any from the fisher folks. Any one who sends a picture to us at islandpier@cybertron.com will have it published if the size permits.

Except for the hardtails and skipjack fishing has been usualaugust fair that is slow. Until the water cools down some or thetarpon show up you can expect it to remain that way. With that said there will always be the day when fish show up in great numbers and the people limit out. Just wish we could perdict when that will happen. Remember yesterdays catch does not always reflect what will happen today or tomorrow. At ths time of the year, the best bet is a good southeast wind and overcast skies.

There have been schools of bait hanging around the pier lately. they want to get under the pier and in the shade. Most of they are alewies, but cigar minnors are here also in lesser numbers. You should be able to can some on either gold hooks or bait rigs.

Yesterdays catch included, a few black snapper (live or fresh shrimp the best bet), spanish still being taken or bullble and gotcha's, skipjack on just about anything, reds missows the best bet and of course hardtails using larger bait rigs either #6 or #4 or some cut bait.

It the past I did not want to make suggestions on what to use to catch different species, since many anglers know much more then i do. Also did not want to waste your time with excess verbage.

If you the readers want i will expand this blog to cover those point brought up

Again thanks for the feedback
