My (2) grown sons and I come down to fish from the pier several times a year. We always enjoy our trip however this time the locals seem to be determined to let us know they fish the area at the end of the pier and we should stay back. One guy said I've been standing here all day buddy and expected us to move. We got on the pier at 5:00am on this day. This gentleman did not arrive until 8:30am. Just wanted to ask if anyone else ever had this happen to them. There will be a next time and next time we will not be as friendly as to move. We will act the locals. Here's a thought. How about a gate on the pier out near the end. Section it off and sell lease areas just as a hunting club does. No one could complain about getting someone's spots and only the serious fisherman would spend the money to buy a lease spot. I've seen this done in other coastal states. It will solve the problems I saw over the three days I fished Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If you don't do something it's going to get the point law enforcement will have to be stationed on the pier just to keep the peace.

Bluemoon - thanks for your comment. Now I know why my husband would not drive me down there to fish because of how unfriendly the locals are.
People need to grow up and learn some manner. It's a modern society where people are blended together. Not like the 1700's.

How would this pier attract tourists? I bet hiring a policeman to keep peace is a fair decision. Yet, we wouldn't dare to come down there.

Well. I will chime in. My family and I come down and fish this pier several times a year. My family and I have never been treated unfairly. All of the locals have always been very understanding and helpful. We have been coming to the pier for prob 20 years. I always get to the pier around 5 am and fish most of the day. So this may be something that you were doing. And I have at least 5 more trips planned to come down and fish this pier. Don't erver let one persons opinion stop anyone from fishing this pier.

You are right about one thing, it was something I did. I got this gentleman's spot. In his mind he had a spot and no one should be in it. I got to the pier at 5:00am and he showed up at 8:30am. He asked my son-in-law to move. He did. I didn't. That's when we had the problem. I'm 52 years old so i've also fished the pier for over 20 years. This was a first for us. Never had this problem before now. We will continue to fish the pier. We will also not tolerate local jerks on the pier trying to bully us around on the end of the deck. We are probably one the few folks who buy annual passes and fish only several times a year. You see this all started because none of those folks recognized us and we weren't wearing bands. They thought we were fishing without paying. Here's the point, take it up with the pier management instead of trying to handle it yourself. I would never post something in an attempt to keep folks off the pier. It's just fishing. It's also first come first serve. Don't ever ask me to move out off your spot. If I'm standing there you were not.

I grew up on the pier, but now only get to fish every year or two when here on vacation. My observation with problems at the end stems more from style of fishing than being local or tourist. I'm certainly not "recognised" there any more, but don't have any trouble fishing at the end. If a style of fishing is different, it can be a PITA. If everyone is floating baits, and you have a jerk jigger, it can cause problems.

Also, the notion of "spots" at the end is a bit dubious. If I'm gone getting a bait, and upon my return someone is fishing there, I usually just move to another location. The only person I'll ask to move every time is someone just walking out to have a look around.

My final statement on the subject...I concur with formerlocal...Me and the boys would do fine fishing shoulder to shoulder with you....
